Craft time
in the motivating sunshine.
Spring brings new beginnings, fresh motivation and energy. It also has me dreaming of the heady warm days, the white cotton dresses, the colourful shorts, baskets, beach bags, market bags, bags for vegetables, little pouches for essentials, snack bags, the list goes on.
My need for crafting has developed out of the collage phase; I am fascinated with bags, little handbags, handbags for fun, handbags for whimsy, bags for bits, bags to go to the sauna with, bags for oranges. My mind reels with all the bag possibilities. If you know me you will know that I already have enough bags, I do not need any more bags really but the idea of making bags brings me great joy.
So what was the next step? A pinterest board of course full of bags that can be made out of fabric. The bag that set me off on this path is one I saw a video for on instagram called the knot bag ‘a ten minute bag’. A simple bag made from one strip of fabric that you knot and sew three lines on: easy. Well mum this strongly reminds me of the ‘make a quilt in a weekend’. ‘A bag in ten minutes’ sounds far more doable with all the day to day chores of life.
After sifting through my fabric box I could not find the right size piece of fabric, I have no large pieces of fabric in my stash for crafting. Which means buying new fabric, I almost, almost chopped up a leopard print skirt I found in a charity shop and barely wear but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. A trip to the fabric shop as any crafter knows can be fatal, a kid in a sweetshop situation. Well I was very restrained and did not go above the budget I had in mind. I may have also purchased a bit of fabric for a second bag project.
The sunshine has continued this weekend and all I want to do is bask. I still have a strong desire to make more. Instagram has understood my craft cravings and has pointed me in the direction of Annie Phillips who is doing a 30 day challenge of getting her spark back using scraps. She has been creating the most wonderful fabric collages/ sewn pieces. I have woken up this morning and that is exactly what I want to do today, a little fabric collage. It also ties in well with an organza carrier bag idea I have had!
Today’s newsletter is short and sweet but I desperately want to remain consistent in writing, even if it is just a few paragraphs! It is now time to get out into the sun and go to a gallery to get inspired. Below are bits from my sketchbook, a pinterest board and the knot bag I whipped up yesterday.
If like me Spring has you wanting to craft, what are you making?
